Sociotherapy, profession and professional code

Theoretical lines of approach in Sociotherapy

The second strategy level

In this strategy, the group-directed differentiation is based on the client's requests for assistance and the applied methods. It entails a division into groups such as task-, communication- and skills groups. Sociotherapy creates different possibilities in which the group (-s interaction) is used as a method of achieving the treatment targets of the client. Contrary to Kok, individual differentiation and approach here pertains to the third degree strategy.

  • Task groups
Group therapy in which the interactions of the client with fellow clients with regard to performance of a task are central. While working together, it can become clear what hinders a client in completing a task with other people, or how the client hinders others in completing the task.

  • Communication groups
Group therapy in which the interactions of the clients with his environment (department/home) are discussed with fellow clients. Of most importance is how the client mixes with others, how he maintains relationships and what position he adopts.

  • Skills groups
Group therapy in which the client trains, together with fellow clients, situations that are difficult for him. The way in which he makes contact and interacts in order to achieve a particular goal is most important in this case.

The third strategy level

In this strategy, a further individual differentiation is found. Sociotherapists review, together with the client, which additional, individually directed possibilities can be made use of in order to reach the targets of the treatment.
